[WoT] Poll. Again

Regarding the most recent poll - hopefully, there are at least a few gals of those 32 voted.

Since we are now nearing our 2nd anniversary of World of Tanks -  the new poll is up.

    2. Yes i know, i'm saying i entered CBT then and i play ever since. Got invite code start playing and we had wipe two weeks later but got back all silver and 5k gold.... those where he days :)

BTW have you considered getting a skill for loader there are only perks for them something that will reduce reload time penalty when ammo rack gets dmg and it happens even after repair. Let's say reduce penalty for 50% when skill reaches 100%. Just an idea.

Reload on AMX with damaged ammo rack is 65 seconds OMG!!!

  2. Overlord please explain to me - dumb idiot - why last year anniversary event had alot more to offer to F2P players whereas this year event is focused on P2P gamers. It's sad, but i can see only greedyness in your "event"

Oh those were the days, so few tanks to chose from and 150g per day allowance :p

  6. Playing almost 3 years now (since EU closed beta on 2010.07.08). Played 22k battles in CB/OB and 10k battles since release. I'm also WoWp Alpha Tester and WoT modder. Yeah, I play a lot slower now, but still enjoing it :)

  7. That's quite a while!

I still wonder how did I make it up till here since the closed beta. Almost 15K battles + at least 2k in beta ... those days ;)

And the funny thing is that the game did not change since then at all. We have a couple of perks more, we got new physics, but everything else is exactly the same :). There are some cosmetic changes like cap points placed in various places for each map, and more tank models to play with, but in the end it's just as it was wen it left beta stage ;)

    1. I dont know if that is a good thing or not...

    2. Well, in essence - yes. But there were some many "cosmetic" changes like physics, new render or CW launch. Smth more game-break... game-changing will be left for WoT 2.0. :)

definitely good, it demonstrated the strength of WoT's core gameplay.

    5. TBH:
I was trying to be a bir cynical here ...

It is good that the game is still familiar to people that did leave it for a year, and came back again after that time, but at the same time: It looks better, tanks jump now, and tey different shapes, but ... did anything else happen at all?

We have "game modes", but they are made in a way, that makes me feel it's forced, or just maybe made in a very lazy way. Why? Because it's repositioning of cap point, and giving maybe a couple of additional rules. There are NO maps designes exactly for that game mode, there are no extra mechanics put in the game to make these more interesting, nothing much at all.

Of course new renders make these map more pleasing to our eyes, and redesigning them adds more balance and pleasure of playing them, but on the other hand it's like driving a 15 year old Volvo ... these are great cars, and You can put a new coat of paint, You can polish Your windows, and get new seat covers, but when You dive past a rand new Volvo in the streets, You realise that cas is not getting any younger.

Adding new tanks is just like attaching a new spiler, or buying a nice set of rims for that oldtimer. They change things, but don't change the car.

      Ovi:
Don't get me wrong. I highly appreciate Your efford as a team, but at the same time, there is NOTHING added to make the game fresh again. Something that would add something, that we did not see in this game before. It's not abour reworking ANYTHING. Every single thing that is in the game at the moment shold stay, but You can't cheat Yourselves any longer, by calling a set of new tanks and maybe a map or two an "update".

These are minor patches that redo the old content, mix it up, and bring back in a slightly different shape and color. It's nothing that we did not play before a million times, and nothing that isn't in the game already.

The key is that we NEED something that will make everyboy say "WOW, this is new, this is SO MUCH FUN!", and not "Yay, now I can gring something else, than what I am grinding now"

And I know You guys CAN DO IT! You just need to face th fact, that no band in the music industry managed to survive just by releasing another "the best of" after some previous "the very best of". Once in a while they just HAVE TO get a new album, despite they are still the same band.

I hope You got my metafore! ;)

    6. Now i am curious.

Do you have a longtime plan or timeline for WoT 2.0, like in the next three years or something?

      Delete
    7. Przemysław Majkowski,

well, I perfectly get this. In the long run we need smth huge to refresh the game and we have planned to do a lot about in our strategic plans - not just new tanks and maps as some might think.

      Delete
    8. As I said ... I believe that You are capable of introducing some new awesome features, some gameplay features that will make WoT a whole new game, but let's be honest for a while. As much as I love this game for how it's played and for a quite a lot of oldschool feels, that go all they way back to 90's and early 2000's when games were at their best, there are issues ...

And talking about new maps? It's ok to bring new maps to the game, but please answer for me just one question regarding these: why are there new game modes, but for moooonths since You introduced them, we still do not have maps dedicated for them, and deliberately designed for these game modes? We have random standard available on all maps, and other modes not, so why not making a bunch of maps that do not have standard oprion, but have defence.and enxounter, just because they were designed that way?

We had an extremely fun feature in komarin (yeah, that sounds bizarre in yhe time perspective :-P) that made accessing the middle dependent on the horse power of a specific tank, and light vehicles were unable to break through. Why dis You give up on the very idea of auch a high environment reactivity to specific tank.parameters? Maybe this would justify adding so many tanks to the game, if You would utilise more parameters than only gun stats and armir values. Maybe making these other parameters matter would make players choose their tank not only based on penetration values for F sake :(

And just to point out again: I still love most of the game, but that does not prevent me from beeing extremely disappointed at the same time.

      Delete
    9. I also think that barricades (?) in Komarin were fun. :)

There are many reasons why I prefer WoT over, f.x. League of Legends.

Maps: In LoL, there are 3 friggin' maps. Only three. After 1000 matches one can predict an outcome after first move of the enemy, like chess. Which equals boring game, and 20 minutes of waiting until defeat/win.

Battle time: there is anything between 10-20 minutes (which was fast there last time I played) and one and half hour (bloody mess, a full-lenght movie!). From perspective, I hate it now and didn't enjoyed back then.

Dynamics of battle: In LoL it was, hard to say, once slow and once lightning fast, depending on what players and their characters and playstyle were. Well, I like WoT more, since there are no "I click faster and more accurate, so I pwn you" on higher tiers (in LoL account had level, max. 30). Also in WoT there are no pointless 1-3 minutes until something started to happen in a battle. I do not count "building" the characteristics of characters during match in LoL, it cannot be compared to WoT.

Now, for most important, toys we play with: In LoL there were many characters (called champions or sth alike), but, in my opinion, they lacked difference. Just different models and textures in most cases. Of course, "OP [insert name here]" syndrome was there as everywhere else. ;)
I like WoT more, since I can feel and tell the difference between tanks. Movement has more to do here, as there in LoL you just pointed and clicked, and character went there. And used few keys to cast spells. For me it wasn't fun.

I can also tell, why I prefer WoT over CrossFire, a MMOFPS game. There in CF, there were weapons painted in a whole damn palette of rainbow colors and metals/minerals. M4 Gold? Why not. Minigun Gold? Hell, it must be implemented. From start, CF was fun, there where only few such "premium" weapons, but after a year or two there were tonnes of them, as equal in numbers as regular weapons. For me it was enough, so I quit. And since today I remember something extremely funny: "my revolver has different colour, so it has 2 more bullets in a magazine". Pure laughter.
Also, CF developers were greedy as hell, you could have pumped dollars into your account, and still not have the premium weapon you wanted, because it depended on your luck. Now THAT is nasty.

So, basically, WoT is best free game I played so far and it should stay this way. ;)
Overlord, you're doing great job writing this blog and answering players' questions. That's great.
Best wishes for you, WG and your products, WoT in the first place. :)

  9. Well Overlord

I was still wondering about when you guys might make the tier 9 and ten more profitable to play. It seems to me that you have a tier 8 game so far and arty is still what is dominating the game without much risk or effort themselves. I hate to keep ranting about arty , but unless you are an avid arty player then you are an arty hater. When someone comes out with an equivalent game don't think you will then fix it , for example Atari, Nintendo , and wii are just some examples of companies that started with a wonderful program but failed to keep up with the wants and demands of th customer. I know the game is free to play but you are also not a nonprofit organization . The best sales strategy long term is how to separate the customer from his money willingly.

    2. William,
Of course arty dominate,in firepower, and view range but thats it and its understandable since ITS an arty. And no risk and effort you say, scout are big risk there is counter arty too,and if you think its easy well i'd say less than playing any other tank since realod time is high, aiming time too, always building and stuff in your way so have to move depending of where the main ennemy force is.Btw im not a big arty player or "avid" as you said,i only have a grille, lol.
But the arty cap for a battle should get back to 3,hihi,or make impossible to get 4 tier 7 arty +1 tier 6 on each team in a tier 8 battle.Got that a couple of time THAT is painful.

    3. Looking forward to stretching SPGs to 10 tiers and related rebalancing.

  10. I started in Oktober 2011, and i have to say those were hard times.

The MM was completely different, and you were matched against tanks up to 4 tiers above you as a normal tank, which you couldnt penetrate. Not from the sides, not from the rear. There was no gold ammo used (it was only for real gold, and only used in CW`s if ever), so to level your tanks in this environment it often was a pain in the ass in the tiers up to 8, to say that clear. It made no fun to level tanks.

It was the complete opposite to today, where the people mostly tried to get hightier, and own with them with a VEEEEERRYYYY big advantage.
Arty was not such a big problem, which made those games even better.

So, when people say nothing changed since 2010, i have to ask them, if they played another game. Besides the MM-Change with BIG impact and the gold change with VERY BIG impact, the physix change was massive too, and upgraded the gameplay to a new level with a very large impact on tactics. As a sidenote: Dat new sounds in 0.8.0 were great as well. :-)

Btw, i never understood since back in 2011, why you dont match tanks only against their own tier, cause it would be a lot fairer game, and very easy to balance. Or at least to limit it to one tier difference, if you see waiting time as an issue.

Maybe you test that one day, to see for yourself.

And when you are at it, why not remove troll platoons, which haunted this game since start? There is absolutely no point in favor why you should let them exist.

There would be many more things to change, in order to make a more enjoyable game, but you already know that.

Would be fine... but in every tier there would be some "OP" tanks. With much more win ratio...

      Delete
    2. At least, that is what a good developer would do.
Balance the tanks, to make the game fair on one respective tier.

Historical correctness or not, equal chances for all is what counts most in a multiplayer game.

      Delete
    3. Well that's what we are striving for. Each tank should give you approx equal chance to win. If you are better than average - you will win far more often.

  12. Been playing over 2 years now, 22k battles and lots of fun along the way and would rate myself as a good average player who puts fun over stats.
Completed German tree late last year, French have 4 to go, lots of other tanks including 6x tier 10, but have a wide spread over all nations with 50+ vehicles in the garage.
Like the game so much it’s my only real interest (MMO or other) although dip into others like War Thunder, on the closed beta for WoWp, looking forward to WoT Blitz and Warships.
Best thing is being in a clan with other like minded players, which helps when facing too many Noobs, but have to say think CW needs a look at as after fighting CW for a very long time, and then finally capturing land and holding it in an alliance, you bought our “Riots” which messed it all up.
EU community needs a bit of help, as we really miss your involvement here, and understand your other commitments, but still follow your blog daily, along with Silentstalker on http://ftr-wot.blogspot.cz/
Overall would like to see some reward to long term players, and maybe the Super Tester tanks might be a way of rewarding them?
    Keep up the good work

  14. The game has come a long way since the beginning... After the first 6 months I took a long break from WoT since I got frustrated to much, the MM bothered me a lot. But before 5 months I came back to check how the game is doing without me and since that moment I'm playing almost every day - reworked MM, amazing graphics, many new tanks, physics, etc... This is the first time since Quake 1 (15 years ago!) that I'm playing with true enthusiasm. Keep it up and I hope we'll have a fine 2 year celebration.

  15. Been playing this game since it was first released and reviewed by PC Gamer in the UK. "Ooh an online tank game!" I thought as something stirred deep within my soul. At first I only played it maybe once a week, got to Tier IV, tried not to get addicted but that all changed when I played it for an entire weekend when the GF was away. Now it's a full blown addiction and I haven't played another PC game for 2 years, apart from a couple of hours on Skyrim when the server was down for maintenance one day.

  17. I think I started in Okt-Nov 2010, was it closed, or open Beta?
    But nevermind...

I startet in Level one tanks and were only loosing... game after game...
Than I startet training games in my Loltraktor and were catched up by a good clan [BRITS] and I remember Britannia saving my little loltractor with his huge tier 8 tank...
After this I often played with BRITS and became a Member and stood there till the clan did splitt up.
Learned a lot there, especially about the great community in this game!

I hope that the game wouldn't end up in an endless adding of new tanks... I would prefer new game modes and espec. going back to more teamplay, which lacks a lot in the last time.
Why not intotrucing the looooong time dicussed 5 man platoons?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well, mostly because their impact on balance - even platoons of 3 can have up to 70-80% WR if players are skilled. Imagine 5 platooned tier 1-8 tanks, they can practically own everything.

      Delete
    2. But still with 3 man platoons you can't do sth for the team when you have 2-3 fail top guys that have 36% win rate, that say it's fun to run with Batchat into enemy base to die within less than 1 minute...

You get such games and than you only think it's lost time! And realy hardly frustrating!

      Delete
    3. Well, in high tiers (9-10) prolly not, however im low and mid tiers - that's quite possible. With platoons of 5 it will grow exponentially.

      Delete
    4. OK... good point.
But tier 9-10 really loose the fun to play, even with a 3 man platoon.
I nearly stoped it, only CW and somtimes during 5-times to get fast Exp.

      Delete
    5. Yeah, here I have to agree. Tier 9 is at the moment the least cared for of all tiers. T8 are used in companies and ESL, T10 are used in companies and CW, but T9? That's the only tier that has no real value at the moment.

I did not day about T7 so far, because these are also one of the lesser values, but here we still have quite a lot of scouts, and some premium tanks, so in T7 there is still something.

It's funny that only even numbers are usefull for anything, but all odd numbers are almost always just a time wasters that are only a mean to reach the next tier. That is one fo these things, that needs to be handled ASAP, and that WG needs to focus on in next 6 months.

What I would suggest is that if T8/T10 are used for organised competetive PvP teamplay, T7 and T9 could be used for individual competetive play. This would make them not collide with eachother, and would bring some value to these tiers, while at the same time WG gains a new feature in WoT, that many players would highly appreciate.

      Delete
    6. We have some ideas how to make tier 9s more important in end-game gameplay, that's related to overhaul of CWs and related things.

      Delete
    7. Just make it that an N-man platoon can only enter a game if the other side also got an N-man platoon. Even if it means longer matchmaking times.

  18. Hi.
I play since May 2011, but I play less and less !

In almost every battle, there's in each teams five artillerys, six scouts, and only four "real" tanks ?
The game isn't about tank battles any more, but it's just hide from enemy scouts, shoot them quick and let your scouts spot for artilleries while you're trying to escape from enemy artilleries shots.

Will it be possible to play real battles with tanks shooting each other, etc. as it was in the past ? Now the game is boring.
(2 artillery and 2 scout max in each battle would be a good thing for gameplay)

When will Wargaming understand that the matchmaking system is totally obsolete and always fail ?

In almost every battle we have a Bot or an AFK player. When will WG really struggle against this ?
There are more players than ever, that means that there are more stupid players than ever too ! When will you really struggle against players insulting, shooting friendly fire etc ?
You will tell me about the automatic system, but it totally fail. There are always more and more of those players.

When will we have new game modes ?(I mean real game modes, not the jokes released months ago)

When will Clan War be ok ? It's still in beta, after 2 years...

When will you see us like players and not only like cash machine ?

I really loved this game, but it was when there was almost only cool players. Now we have battle full of raging kids doing stupid things with a failing matchmaking. This game became a nightmare. So I almost don't play it any more.
    Sad...
But I know WG don't care there are always more new players coming spending a lot money to buy a tier 8 premium with zero experience than old players leaving, so, we are not your priority.

    5. " I respect any critical opinion on any of our products as well as it's constructive. "

WG could start by finally rewarding good gameplay and stop handing out "free XP" to AFKlers and noobs - pls take a look at the screenshot below:

      http://www.abload.de/img/xpdistributionrcuzk.jpg

At the moment you get tons of XP for doing "nothing" and the players who carry whole teams get fed some small bonus above the mandatory "idiot-base-xp" every window licking moron gets for being able to klick "Battle!" or installing a BOT/Script.

Its quite simple and fair: You play good your get much rewards in form of XP, behave like a braindead monkey and (nearly) no rewards.

Ofc everyone who has been here for longer than a year, knows WG policy. Sell premium t8s for 45€ to newbies who dont have a clue how the game works. Introduce premium shells (pay to win through the back door -> premium account = steady income for WG) so that even the greatest noob as scores 300 damage from time to time and start balancing tanks around prem sheels (increase income even more because you got to buys them to stay competitive).

While long term customers who put up with you guys (sadly no alternatives to WoT) are fed with CW (slowly becoming random battles 2.0)that doesnt work and is bugged over periods of time.

At least give us a game mode "no gold shells" and implement it like Encounter/Assault - opt in or out, simple as that. And if you want to play it all premium shells arte replaced by regular AP(CR) shells automatic if the player wants that.
That would be very easy to implement and I think pretty popular.

      regarding WoWP:

Joystick made a big step forward with the last patch - finally.
