[WoWP] Up in the Sky

Since the launch of World of Warplanes global alpha we have received around 400.000 applications from around the globe. At the current, rather early stage of development, really (and I mean really) massive testing is not required, and candidates are chosen based on a variety of factors they stated in their application forms. That creates not a huge, but steady and stable flow of feedback.

Don't get disappointed if you haven't received confirmation letter yet (equally if you haven't received anything at all). Filled applications are not denied and will be still valid at closed beta stage, when we will be needing much more testers to test new features and content.

In global alpha we are already operating 3 different servers (American, European, and Russian), so it's definitely step forward comparing to WoT, where we started with Russian server only. The development progresses rather fast, basically we update the game every 2-3 weeks, adding more stuff.

As many of you might already know from the multiple interviews and articles on WoWP, the game is a mixture of sim and arcade elements. We are going to support various controllers (even including TrackIR), offer quite realistic flight model (aerobatics is in), however neither take-off nor landing is currently planned, as well as precise control over air-fuel mixture.

You can apply for the alpha, if you haven't done it yet here:

  1. Could you reveal how many alpha testers is there already in GAT?

    1. Not many comparing to the number of applications submitted, but we are constantly admitting more.

  2. Do you post news for World of Battleships, too?

I know alot of ppl who like to hear any news on development stage or pics from Battleships.

  3. I've been in the Alpha for a long while now, and I've got to say I really recommend it if you don't mind feature incomplete games. It's still in progress but it's clear the devs have learned a lot of lessons from tanks and have taken the opportunity of building a new game to bake them into the foundation of an excellent game. I can't wait to see how good Battleships is if this is any indication.

    1. I agree. I more than likely won't play WoWP since I'm terrible at flight games. WoB is something I am definitely looking forward to, however.

  4. Will WoWp also have these 0% crits? :/ Please say no D:

  5. The WoP video looks nice they could still work on the minimap and the overall UI but so far it looks good and hopefully we will get the option to change the color for the planes eventually

  6. The more Sim the better.....The whole challenge of air combat is to see who can fly their machine closest to the edge and keep control. As it stands now you have no.....piolt black out.....no wing failure....no piolt deaths..... very limited stalling, do you even have piolt controlled flaps? Managing your air speed while doing maneuvers is the NUMBER ONE skill in flight combat. If you take all of these away you will have a seriously watered down version of a flight game and will lose a lot of players to world of planes.

    1. Keeping that all in, you have a game that is unplayable for 90% of the players ;)
It's a mass market game, I hope the controls are as easy as the ones from WoT.

    2. For sure, it is not going to be a truly sim game. Just like in WoT, however we can naturally expect that WoWP will have a steeper learning curve, being in complete 3D.

The control of flaps is added by the way.

  8. Overlord,

Why did we have to create another account for the World of Warplanes website? I thought we were going to have one account for all three games, tanks, planes, and ships?

    1. You don't need new account. I have the same in both games. All accounts from WoT were moved to WoWP in January AFAIK.

    2. Maybe you tried to log in on the NA server, not the EU.

    3. True that, you don't need to register another account for WoWP, the one from WoT will do. Just make sure that you are on the correct server.

  9. Any word on world of battleships? I'm much more interested in this than warplanes and tanks put together. There hasn't been any updates on it for a long time. I hope you guys aren't giving up on it.

    2. Oh, okay.
But that guy who took the pic, will he be trown out of Alpha?

    3. His name is Charizmali
Can i pleaaaase get his Alpha spot? (a)

    4. Talk about no honor. I'll admit that anyone who betrays an NDA should be thrown out, but revealing a name solely in the name of self gain is quite a negative trait. I'd have done it just because they broke NDA.

  12. Can we apply again when CBT starts?I won't be honest again, I promise.

    1. He has already said that all applications that don't make it into the Alpha will be kept for closed beta, and will likely get in then since they will be adding a lot more people, and I would think they would probably give priority to the people who applied for alpha but didn't make it.

  13. applied for closed alpha but left due to school stuff... tbh i ain't interested in going at it again either

  14. I'm in the alpha and I've got to tell people that currently the battles are really chaotic, and it's really hard to have any control over it like in WoT. With that said you can really expect an awesome game, this stuff got some crazy potential. I agree with a previous poster that WG has really learned a thing or two about how to make a game like this from WoT. And about realism/sim I think it is much more realistic and difficult than WoT. In comparison WoT is pinball xD

    1. I think here ain't the right spot to post stuff like that. But interesting to hear.

    2. Sure thing, we have learnt a lot from WoT. Technical and procedural experience is invaluable. WoWP will indeed be a bot more difficult to master.

  15. Hello, got a question: In world of tanks there are medals called after tank aces... Will it be the same in WoWp? If yes, will there be some medals called after czechoslovaks? Our comunity would apreciate it...
PS: sorry for my english ;)

    1. hi,

not in the very near future, but not before long. We would like to add more content and polish the game before launching the closed beta. The player expectations are definitely higher at that stage.

  17. I was surprised when applying for the alpha that it didn't ask for previous testing experience or level of interest in aircraft. I would have thought that these would be important for initial testing?
