[WoT] Public Test of 0.9.1

Give your feedback on the 0.9.1 update that is being publicly tested these days.

Main things to pay attention to:

1. Performance and stability
2. New Map: Kharkiv
3. Marks of Excellence on barrels
4. Reworked matchmaking for light tanks tier IV-VII. Rebalanced MT-25 and VK 28.01
5. Increased visibility for TDs after firing
6. Two new Historical Battles added: Bryansk Front (USSR, 1942) and Siege of Tobruk (North Africa, 1942).

  1. Well I will be rather off topic cause I want to write about most frustrating things in current WoT (in my opinion ofc :) )

I wasn't playing for 8 months tiered mainly with rather low quality of players. Came back because of historical battles (which are in bad shape btw) and after just a few weeks I am again totally tiered with WoT.

This is why (from most frustrating to less)

    1.
Quality of players is even worse then last summer. I am fed up with loosing battle after battle cause my team is full of people who have no idea what to do. I am fed up with being lowest level and watching how 3 top tiers die in 2 minutes without doing anything useful or they camp in base.

I am tiered with being among three best players in most battles and losing all the time. It is not funny to make in tier V more damage then 3 KV-1s's in your team together.

I will probably again stop playing. I like this game a lot, I like my tanks, but it is so f.... frustrating to lose cause most of teammates are clueless.

Battles are now onesided, usually one team is crushed and in such environment one person has much lower influence on outcome then in previous years. In most battle outcome is obvious after first minute. It looks like most of reasonable people just left game or random battles. But I am casual player, I have time only for a few fast battles a day, so for me only random is suitable. But random is totally frustrating.

You need to make leagues. At least 2 to make it possible for people like me to play without watching how some people ruin battle in one minute. It was never so bad in randoms. In most cases I have to turn off game after 3-4 battles cause I have enough of this terrible gameplay.

Or at least make some more rewards, special medals or anything for good players in losing teams. I had a combo of 4 lost battles in a row in which I was always best player in XP!! And it wasn't not for me funny or satisfying! It was frustrating like hell.

    2.
Also loading times are frustrating. It is now as bad as it was soon after release. I am often 30 sec- 1 minute after battle start and it is after I lowered almost all possible settings.

    3.
Mega alpha guns and unbalanced tanks. It is not funny to be oneshoted or be left after one hit with miserable HP. KV1s, SU100Y are really annoying. I do not understand why it takes so much time to do something with unbalanced KV1s, you nerf Hellcat 4th time in a row, but KV1s is still as unbalanced as it was for his tier...

Due to this frustration 9.1 is first patch since 2 years that I will not test.... I am just too tiered and to be honest sad that gameplay is so ruined and not funny at all. I see no point in playing WoT, maybe just will buy a few tier II to get to battle from time to time... There at least can be sometimes some fun, but it is not the same as good battles in higher tiers. Alas, in last 6 weeks I had only a few, while those lost already in 1-2 minutes are majority.

I do not want to play with people who do not know game. And there are thousands players like me. Many already resigned.

    1. I feel exactly like you, Dead_Skin_Mask.
I have almost completely given up on World of Tanks and moved on to War Thunder. While that has its share of frustrating moments too, at least I usually feel like I can actually do something.

    2. @I usually feel like I can actually do something@

Funny thing, for some reason - I don't. I mean I don't feel like I'm impacting battles there at all.

    3. As for Dead_Skin_Mask's comment,

I do get what you are talking about. Generally WoT audience is maturing, and it's time to think of those things that would make veterans happier. I mean to attempt find another balance between catering for newbies and veterans.

      Delete
    4. unfortunately i'm in the same bandwagon more or less, wot became a "job"/"chore" more than something enjoyable at the high level of play i'm in, it's not fun, instead of ending a game session satisfied/fun i end up stressed, full of rage and bile and pissed off.

and like Gneckes also i've mostly moved to WTGF(before WTGF mind you i was playing maybe on weekends or on special events only and not much), whilst WTGF has it's fair share of bullshit moments the mechanics cannot be faulted and i end up enjoying the matches a huge deal more as it has a tactical depth that wot cannot achieve

In fact one of the things that makes people bile with rage(particularly at a very ghigh level of play) is the unfixable spotting system(the only way to fix it is to remove it altogether, no rework can fix it), in WTGF if you didnt saw a tank is because you OPTICALLY couldnt distinguish it, not because a game mechanic arbitrarely decided so.

i'll be looking forward to see what you do to cater to veteran players, i've invested an indane ammount of time to WOT and i'd hate to have to essentially "toss it away"

    5. I have started playing War Thunder and left the WoT for exactly 2 reason:
1., "I do get what you are talking about. Generally WoT audience is maturing," - clearly Overlord has no knowledge about random battles in general.
2., Wargaming can implement a system which pimps up tanks with stars, strapes and every glitter sht to show how good the driver is ... but simply incapable develop / implement an MM system which would put new players against new players and veterans agains veterans.

Last but not least: "Funny thing, for some reason - I don't. I mean I don't feel like I'm impacting battles there at all." - we found out that Overlord cannot play War Thunder as it should be played. I was playing the game for 2 days and won at least 2-3 battles for my team by killing enemy bombers protecting our base / killing their gorund targets. Please... at least just try to understand you role in the game before you start criticising it.

    6. @L'Eliminatuer
I found WT GF much less tactical than WoT because it is much much more useful to camp. You will very often onehit your target and almost always hit it. That make battles between experienced players very static and boring.

In WoT I can push out of cover if I know that this is what needed and pull the pubbies with me because I know I won't very likely not instantly blown to pieces.

So I feel there are more tactical options in WoT than in WT GF.

Also I will never understand the people that whine about MM in WoT and state that MM is the reason to switch to WT (GF) because afaik they do not have skill based MM either...

      Delete
    7. @Dead Skin Mask
Your argumentation makes no sense. YOu say that you loose often because the players your experience are bad. Now there are two things very wrong with that.

First: You state that the bad players are only in your team and never in the other team, which is certainly not true at all. WHile you can have streaks of bad luck (not only team but also RNG) if you play a hundred games it all cancels out.

Second: Bearing my first point in mind: If the amount of really good players would increase substancially in the game, would that mean your performance would soar or would it instead drop? Logic dictates that the second would be true, the more competent you teammates are the more damage they would do that you can not do. The more competent your opponents are the harder for you too. So whats your point at all?

      Delete
    8. You really think that someone who plays 3 years do not know that?

Short version for you. Maybe this time you will manage to understand: I am fed up with battles in which outcome is obvious after 1-2 minutes cause huge part of team just stupidly dies driving without clue and doing mega stupid things. In such teams you are in most cases left alone against 5-6 enemies, who will come and kill you in 1 sec. You can't influence outcome cause your team gave no support at all. Such battles happen now much more often then after release and are pathetic. It is not about win ratio. It is about good gameplay and fun. No fun when after one minute you see that battle is lost and you can only try to get as much xp and creds as possible before you die.

But it also influence win ratio for decent players. With such failed teams outcome is closer to 49 cause most battles are like coin flip. You can do nothing, when your team dies fast and you are alone against a few. You are able to do smth and influence battle, when your team stays longer alive so you have more time to fight. You are able to do smth when there is more reasonable people who can fight. And even if you lose, you had nice battle then. But now there are mainly onesided mayhems cause huge part of team can only die fast... Victory goes to that team who had less such players.

    9. +1 for you dead skin mask
the nr 1 reason i quit wot is no league system or decent mm.

    10. LoL is a superb example. MM there takes quite long sometimes, which is acceptable for a game that runs above 30 minutes easily.

However, would you say that in LoL skill based MM saves you from retard team mates?

If so then you are playing a different game than I do.

Finally you might want to watch the WCG finals fo WoT for a taste of what it would be if a skil based MM would be implemented.

Yeah right, no more tomatoes to hide behind and use a HP buffer. No more crazy pushes by good players because they know that the flank is held only by a few tomatoes. The game would become just as campy and stale as the finals I mentioned above... on TOP of taking forever to find a team.

      No thanks.

      Delete
    11. So you really think that making 2-3 groups depending from skill and experience will cause that battles in WoT will look like those played by that small group of proffesional players (which are not even 1 proc of playerbase)? Oh lol. But I see that you love to lose battles cause you had in your team all 3 X tiers with 44-45 win ratio and you were stock KT, which was raped by 3 enemy X tiers cause your "awsome" tiers X were useless. I had it yesterday - 2 X tiers suicided and one was in a bush behind a base. No thanks. I will rather resign from WoT then accept situation in which idiots, bad MM and unbalanced vehicles ruin whole fun.

    12. Sandor Nagy "Please... at least just try to understand you role in the game before you start criticising it."

You have no understanding of WTGF. Kills are almost totally irrelevant in AB, The only thing that matters is the capture points. Even at my suicidal worst I never used more than half my tanks. The game is plagued by people that refuse to move further than the nearest ridge from the spawn, just watching the capture areas. That is why it hard to influence matters, if you try to take a capture point your usually by yourself. The team that wins is almost always down to the one that has the most tanks that dont sit on their asses, and nothing you can do about that.

  2. Overlord, Tobruk in the game is the 1941 battle, not the 1942.

Anyway, I am actually really happy about the patch - sounds are nice, performance is better, explosions and smoke look cool. I noticed two weird things:

    - noone is playing new historical battles on tests, you guys should consider putting in some "PLAY HB FFS" message, I've been trying to get one since yesterday
    - for some reason, the 9.1 test client resets my resolution to 1024*768 everytime I run it.

    1. It is also pointless to offer 3 HB at once. The small group of people, who are still ready to test it in current version is dispersed among 3 battles... IMO it was one of many mistakes in HB introduction. And I am afraid that thos mistakes totally killed that mode whatever WG does with it in future.

      Delete
    2. Agree here. Would be better to enable HB one by one.

      Delete
    3. I have to say I personally think that I would prefer Historical battles to be more like Assault or Encounter. Something you can play by just hitting "random battle" and something players could enable or disable. I LOVE the idea of Historical battles, but don't think the current manner in which it is set up is going to work for NA.

      Delete
    4. Just because of lower online numbers or any other reasons?

      Delete
    5. As much as people cry about the MM in WoT, it shows that it does something very right as compared to HBs!

In random you have an endless variance as you never know wether you are top tier or bottom tier , how many and what tanks of which tier are present - very interesting.

In HB you know almost exactly what tanks will be present each and every battle and, more important, you know wether you will be top tier or bottom tier. Unsurprisingly most people want to be top tier and choose tanks accordingly only to flood the queue.

For what? HB has no intrinsic difference to random. If there would be a respawn (garage battles) for low tier tanks that would differenciate HBs from randoms but as it is now, there is simply no reason at all to play HBs as the mode is a more boring variant of random.

  3. As for the performance and FPS drops: I personally didn't notice any FPS improvements compared to 9.0.4. The overall performance is still mediocre and there are still some small FPS drops when spotting and/or destroying an enemy tank.

I hope that you manage to improve overall FPS in the further test rounds of 9.1.

    Thanks.

  4. Oh, I forgot to mention: the new gun sounds are boring and too flat. Please improve at least the gun sounds of high caliber guns (80mm and above).

    1. What about Hellcat and Jackson?

      Delete
    2. I just tested the Hellcat:

      - Engine, tracks and turret sounds: fantastic, outstanding!
      - Gun sounds: quite bad, sounds like air rifle.

      Delete
    3. I have to admit that your new gun sound are very realistic, but please add at least some small "Hollywood drama" to the gun sounds:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKDPX8PEiVk

      Delete
    4. You do realize that this kind of perceived stuff is what kills the historicism in the first place, right? "I know it's wrong, but I am used to it, so please continue to misinform thousands and millions of other people."

This is one of the few places where WG can get fairly close to historical approach (except the guns that have no similar caliber or kind in the world today, of course), so why would you go for "Hollywood-style" sounds?

I understand that there's a small boy inside of most players that wants to see huuuuge explosions and stuff like that, but I think that's best left to modders. Since, you see, it's easier to let WG make comfortably historical sounds and modders rip the sounds from who-knows-where (probably Hollywood movies) than the other way around.

      Delete
    5. Good point. It's hard to getting used to the new "flat" sounds. WG should at least implement more "bass" to the sounds of the really big guns. Now, a 75mm guns sounds like a 130mm howitzer. This would add more diversity the the sounds.

  5. 1. Performance and stability
Seems good, though CTD on my PC is mostly random, so can't say for sure.

    2. New Map: Kharkiv
    Not tested

    3. Marks of Excellence on barrels
Not tested (for long enough), but I like the idea. What are the Japanese symbols supposed to be, though, tomahawks?

    4. Reworked matchmaking for light tanks tier IV-VII. Rebalanced MT-25 and VK 28.01
    Way to go~

    5. Increased visibility for TDs after firing
Makes sense, the statistics of guns should be the same if the gun is the same, including demasking. The TDs are already in advantage due to (usually) lower profiles, usage of camonets and other stuff.

    6. Two new Historical Battles added: Bryansk Front (USSR, 1942) and Siege of Tobruk (North Africa, 1942).
HB are pmuch killed right now - for everything that's in the dropdown you have an EXTERNAL reason to go there (training - I need to test map, platoon / team - I want to play with friends, team / company - I need to train stuff) - except for HB. They need to be visible more, because otherwise there's no incentive in playing them.
    Either of:
    - randomly playing with popup (you will get thrown into HB: Yes/No)
    - button for HBs in the main area (side by side with random)

And possibly some kind of icon that tells you: YOU CAN PLAY HBs WITH THIS VEHICLE, because people will STILL forget.
Sometimes I remember I'd like to play HBs, but usually I am like: "Meh, nobody will be there anyway." which further decreases number of people inside...

    7. New Sounds
I like them a lot. For guns, big calibers could use some more differentiation (only a bit, though, if possible), but Hellcat and Jackson as are now are fantastic and exactly how I imagine it sounds when you fire and hear it from inside and outside. GJ on those!

  7. Hey there

all i want to comment on are the new sounds, i dont know why people say they are bad.. but on my sound system (audio engine 2+) they sound super! i love the "real" gun sounds so much more then the overly exaggerated boom sounds.. what you can do i make the different sice barrels sound different, so small caliber sound very diff from the 150+ mm..

but plz dont listen to the people who are saying that the gun sounds like a air gun, they have bad sound systems or laptop speaker i dont know.. but let them be and impliment them :D!

also love the turret turn sound and new engine sounds.. but he hellcat engine is a bit quiet.

    1. You are right saying that new sounds are to be appreciated on a decent audio system. That's how our audio engineers tune it. Unfortunately the scalability is not really good here.

      Delete
    2. To me the main problem is that the new sounds seem distant, the other players do sound a lot better, but my tank feels 100 meter away when I shoot. Compared to this Jagpanther video( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0KDnIsZe5Q ), the gun sounds in the game are flat and without a powerfull "thud" like they have in real, and please add proper lasting reverbation to the sounds.

Keep up the good work ;)

  8. 1. Performance and stability
I guess it's OK :) ... I still get some issues with smoke etc, but that was always the case of simply more effects=less FPS, so 25 FPS will have to do for now.

    2. New Map: Kharkiv
Buildings could use better texture resolutions.

    3. Marks of Excellence on barrels
All red markers are to bright. I know that this matches all national markers for USSR/China, but they do not look like painted on, but more like they glow by themselves with ultra-bright red (no, I am not using any color filters). Of course it's just a personal preference to remove som R from that on the RGB table (and no, there is no "glow effect" or anything, just the color intensity) ;)

    4. Reworked matchmaking for light tanks tier IV-VII. Rebalanced MT-25 and VK 28.01
    - did not try any of these in the test -

    5. Increased visibility for TDs after firing
To bad that E25 can still keep on hitting You from 15 meters and You can not see it ... this destroyer is to small to NOT get a cammo nerf. Every other vehicle - not bad. I play a lot of T110E4 on the live server and I never depend on my cammo there, so to me it is just a great change ! :)

    6. Two new Historical Battles added: Bryansk Front (USSR, 1942) and Siege of Tobruk (North Africa, 1942).
    - nope, did not try those -

    7. Sounds (why did You not ask about that?)
I really appreciate new sounds, but with gun fire sound upgrade there should also come some sort of hull hit and ricochet sound updates that is based on the hull thickness and/or the shell size. At the moment it just sounds strange.

    ReplyDelete
  9. -New sound effects: They're a step in the right direction. Better than the guns of current WoT, but you need to add more variety. The big guns sound too similar to the small guns - add some *variety*.
-New tank explosion effects: The fireball looks "cheap". It's like a low framerate gif sprite instead of a real ball, reminds me of the explosions in Doom 1. Needs more depth and 3D-effect.
-Optimization: Great. The FPS is much better in 9.1
-Turret turning sound: When you're moving the tank, the turret sound is always on. When you're sitting still, the turret sound only plays after a long turret turn. Why does a moving tank always hear the turning sound?
-Light tank MM: About time! I'd still prefer +2 instead of the new +3, but it's still an improvement over the current +4.
-Marks of Excellence: Good stuff. Wish there was a way to invidually toggle them for each tank though, kinda like camo paint or decals.
-New HB's: The problem of long MM queues still remains. The long queues mean less players play HB and less players playing means even longer queues. It's an endless circle, which results in almost nobody playing HBs, which is the case on the current live server.
-TD camo changes are very welcome.
-New map Kharkov is also nice. Like a reverse Ruinberg. The more city maps the better

  10. I like the new gun sounds to be honest , not much of a fan of the Hollywood type of sounds . Performance seems better in this patch , didn't get to try the new map since the map rotation suck but everything i was able to test was ok with a few minor bugs wich i understand you already know about .
One request i might add : i would like a bit more exhaust smoke and in different colors depending on the engine type (white-blueish for the gasoline ones and a darker smoke for the diesel engines, something along those lines) .
Also the big flame when the tanks is destroyed is ok but seems a bit cartoonish don't know why .

    ReplyDelete
  11. Smoke from tanks exhaust.. white for gas engines tanks, and blackish smoke for diesel engine tanks

  12. 1. Performance and stability
No more lag spikes followed by FPS dropping to 5 or 10, depending on the map. Good thing.
There's still a small FPS drop and game lag (not network lag) when switching to sniper. In 9.0 I was able to fix this with Max Farplane mod which sets all LODs to be the same, regardless of the distance.

    2. New Map: Kharkiv
Unfortunately, haven't got the chance to play it. :(

    3. Marks of Excellence on barrels
Haven't seen it yet, but looks cool. :)

    4. Reworked matchmaking for light tanks tier IV-VII. Rebalanced MT-25 and VK 28.01
MT-25 is perfect. Don't have VK. As for the new MM: I totally like it.

    5. Increased visibility for TDs after firing
    No more invisible WT. :D
As for the other TDs: JPII didn't have a lot of camo to start with to notice any difference. :P

    6. Two new Historical Battles added: Bryansk Front (USSR, 1942) and Siege of Tobruk (North Africa, 1942).
Tried Bryansk, as a KV-1 and a Pz 38 (t), both times waited 5 min to get kicked. Both times had 9 Russian tanks waiting and 9 heavy tanks waiting => everybody plays KV-1. :(

P.S. Love the new smoke effects, gun sounds are great, a bit more depth (as in bass) and maybe a bit of reverb wouldn't hurt (echo is already there), volume is OK. The new tank destruction explosions are a bit exaggerated, they look like a full fuel tank exploded.

  14. I vote for realistic gun sounds. I have played a few matches on 9.1 test server and like the new realistic gun sounds over the vanilla version in 9.0

  15. I assume the new gun sounds are samples and if successfull further work will be made to them? Anyhow I would prefer realistic gun sounds, however I would not mind them being run through a sound studio and tweaked a bit if necesary...
Apart from that please bring better driving sounds to all tanks - They are long overdue and without it the tanks will never feel like driving a beast of steel as they deserve ;-)
Also plz look into explosions as they look a bit Duke Nukem atm...

    1. @I assume the new gun sounds are samples and if successfull further work will be made to them? @

They are the results of the audio team's hard work. Not just some raw samples. If they are welcomed, we will be polishing sounds further.

  16. My feedback to the 9.1 test:

    1) new sounds are amazing. Realistic or not I do prefer them a lot, because they are less "opressing", it's just better for ears ^^

    2) the new map is nice ! Really beautiful, lots of tactics possible... I just have a bad feeling about arty players: buildings toi high, even worst than himmelsdorf for SPGs. Will these tanks get a "special" matchmaking that would never make them fight on "full city" map (ensk and ruinberg are good, himmelsdorf too hard) ?

    3) the new explosions effects are really nice. And they don't make fps drops !

Now one question, and I think lots of people have already asked it a lot of time, but:
Will the matchmaker be reworked to create teams with same "stats" ? Like one team have a total of 45 efficiency rating, the other maybe 50 ? Because as the first comment said, it's not really funny anymore to get a full team of players who don't know what they're doing (even worst, new players with a tier 8 premium) against the other team with 5 or 6 good players...

    1. As far as I'm aware such a thing is not planned. At least for randoms.

    2. To stress this: I and many of my clanmates would likely leave the game if skill based MM would be implemented (apart fromt he fact that this would be very hard to do 15:15 and still have short MM times).

Why? Because we have skill based MM of a sort in CW and in Team battles.

Random is endlessy fresh and new because there is a lot of variation. Sometimes you steamroll, sometimes you get steamrolled, most often though it is kind of balanced out or at least plays out completely different than the players skill levels would indicate...

      Don't take this away!

Also, no offense, but most people that want skill based MM want it because they really suck at the game and they don't want to become better, only have their chances raised by everyone else becoming worse...

  18. Soo i played on test server for a bit, and here is my opinion:
    - gun sounds – don’t like it, that “pom pom” sounds also in Tier X sounds funny
    - engine sounds – hellcat and jackson – very nice i like it
    - destroyed tank effect – it looks slushy, and ridiculous and it has delay about 0.5s, i think this could be better, with less boom effect, and nicer flames

About optimalization, i didn’t notice any differences in FPS for me (about 40-50 FPS)…still almost the same, and stable.

  19. Regarding 9.1 test:
    - optimization looks alright, definitely not worse than 9.0, but since the game STILL does not have any integrated benchmark, its hard to tell exactly. I dont wanna spend half an hour Frapsing replays.

    - gun sounds are horrible. Nearly all guns (105mm, 120mm, whatever) have exactly the same sounds, I am tired of listening to it every 2 seconds when somebody fires. However, what I will NEVER forgive you is changing the sound of the 150mm cannon of the E100 - that sound was truly EPIC, music to my ears everytime I pulled the trigger and its gone, you ruined it! I dont care the original might not be historical, that thing was never built, so nobody should accuse you of unhistorical sounds. New gun sounds in general seem very muffled and just weird.

    - have you decreased the accuracy again (shell dispersion within the aiming recticle)? My IS-7 could not hit a freaking barn at 150m (weak spots like hatches, etc.) and E50M was not much better even at close range. This is indeed a very bad change, since it introduces yet even more RNG to the game and further increases the efficiency of gold ammo, with which you generally dont need to aim at weak spots.

    - effects when tank is destroyed: what the hell? It looks like 20*20px GIF image with like 5FPS. The choppy sparks flying around are really laughable. On the other hand exhaust effects look nice.

What I like about War Thunder in general compared to World of Tanks at the moment:

    - no gold ammo. Each shell type is purely situational, you have to use your brain, analyze the situation and select the appropriate shell type. Not like in WoT, where you load gold ammo, turn autoaim on and shoot to sh*t everybody and everything. It absolutely screws up game balance, where it nearly completely dimishes any armor whatsoever and its sad to see Wargaming prefers to have premium ammo in the game even at the cost of worse gameplay. But why remove it, when it generates profits, right? Greed is bad. Remember that.

    - no SPGs. Arty is ridiculously easy to play, yet high rewarding. You dont need to know armor schemes, aim for weak spots, just click at the icon and it will die. Very idiotic concept, should not be in the game in the first place (or make it underpowered - low risk -> low reward).

    - no tier X tank destroyers. I hate fighting stupid Waffenträgers, Death Stars and top tier TDs in general, they just totally own the battles right now. This goes with general vehicle imbalance in WoT - there are godlike tanks like T57 Heavy, Obj. 140 and Waffles, but totally garbage tanks on the other hand like the Maus, IS-7, IS-4 and so on. The situation has been like this for ages and it does not look like something is going to change, which is sad. Personally, I consider vehicle balance one of the most important aspects of the game.

    - much more action packed gameplay. This is probably a combination of more factors like better map desing and spotting system, but the funny thing is that you would expect an ultra arcade game like WoT to be more action packed, while it is actually the other way around. I think too many bushes, too many camping spots and overpowered TDs are the main cause of this in WoT. Also maps like Komarin, Swamp, Prochorovka and Murovanka are completely retarded to me - try driving a heavy tank here with loads of TDs and arty - its effectively unplayable and generally very painful experience.

    - matchmaking. Very rarely do I see balanced battles, which are fought to the last tank. Usually either team A single-handedly stomps team B or team B stomps all over team A - this happens because there is a great disparity between player skill and experience between the two teams.
If I look at patches 9.0 and 9.1 I see this: screwed up some shaders, utterly screwed up perfmance, no new content outside of completely unfinished and nearly unplayable game mode (HBs) and like 3% of tanks remodelled to HD. This will not do, you need to step it up!

    1. You're right about the gold ammo: it destroy the game. Who needs armor when everyone just have to spen few more credits to ignore it. Gold ammo need to be "gold", if people can buy it witb credits they'll do it all the time and even the most armored tank in the game become weak (maus seriously is not as good as it was years ago...)

    2. i kinda read what you wrote rather big but..game definetly is smother now..i can go for 3-4 games without a twitching or sttutering when i go to sniper mode or back to arcade..in my opinion sounds are better as i said reminds of gnomefather's way and i like that..but it can definetly sound better..agree for the explosion can be a lot better and for premium(gold)ammo it is what it is..use it like others and fuck it or dont ;)

    3. IMO, there should be gold ammo (irl many tanks had a few APCR and HEAT shells), but limited amount per tank, like in HB, to make use of it a little more tactical and skill oriented. If not possible then price of premium ammo in credits should be raised by 100 prc.

    4. @have you decreased the accuracy again (shell dispersion within the aiming recticle)?@

      Nope.

    5. There are a few ideas regarding prem ammo - both limitation and rebalancing. Will see if and when they are introduced.

      Delete
  20. Maybe premium shells with higher penetration should do less damage to make a difference in shell variety? But seriously why are people complaining as they are available for all and does have their weak sides... Just some shells are unbalanced because WG think more credits is a balance parameter

  22. Not done much on the CT yet but my biggest comments are around the new gun sounds(awesome, but will upset plenty) and with the tanks exploding(great idea but execution is poor).

With the explosions, the resolution looks really awful and over powers the effect. I think more smoke and less fire is needed

    ReplyDelete
  23. Not much to add but please, remove the new tank explosion effect, it is the most unrealistic effect ever seen, next time put a nuclear bomb explosion.

  24. 1. Performance and stability
It's hard to tell if it's my computer or the game... Load times can range from 30s-2min, sometimes loading in when the pre-match countdown hasn't started yet, sometimes when it's already done and the game has started. The random crashes have gone away. Still seeing the fraction of a second freeze when somebody dies.

    2. New Map: Kharkiv
Haven't run into this map yet.

    3. Marks of Excellence on barrels
Nice that it's optional. Adds some flavor like the WoWP kill markers. Where did the idea of the Axe markers for the Japanese tanks come from?

    4. Reworked matchmaking for light tanks tier IV-VII. Rebalanced MT-25 and VK 28.01
Still have to test light tanks in that range.

    5. Increased visibility for TDs after firing
A needed balance factor for some of them.

    6. Two new Historical Battles added: Bryansk Front (USSR, 1942) and Siege of Tobruk (North Africa, 1942).
    Haven't tried HB yet.

    7) Sound and graphics.
A little bit more feedback from me..
The new engine and track sounds shown off on the M18 are wonderful.
The new explosions look ridiculous at times. If the tank took an ammo rack hit, it's a nice touch but if I kill a tank using AP by hitting the cupola or rangefinder, it's like the tank commander was packed with a barrel of gas or something and it doesn't make sense to see it.
WG and history buffs say the new gun sounds are 'historic' but they don't sound like the cannons going off in videos I've seen online either. They're a really flat sounding *pop* more than anything.. like a pistol firing. I'm not asking for Hollywood level explosions here either, but some kinda sound with more substance.
The sound of tanks getting hit are really flat too.. they sounded better in the 7.0~8.0 patches where you knew you were getting hit.
The sound of the turret turning and shell ejection are almost inaudible...

  25. I'm a bit concerned about the TD nerf, as the change doesn't really hurt high-alpha TDs, but punishes high-DPM TDs (very few of which are considered overpowered). And the bad TDs (SU-101, ARL V39) will get even worse. I'd rather TDs be "balanced" individually where needed.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. SU-101 is a TD that can be played for long range shot, then even with the camo nerf it still have a good camo, and it can be played as a contact TD thanks to his speed. I dont see it like a bad TD.
This nerf was needed because tanks like Borsig were just op, it's not funny to be destroyed in 30s without even see the tank who is shoting at you, and after you realise that he was just 200m in feont of you...

      Delete
    2. The SU-101 is terrible. If you look on wot-news website under tank curves, it does about 4-5% worse than average for players of every skill level (be it lemming or unicum). Almost no other tank or TD is that bad.

As I said above, if there is a problem with a particular TD, nerf it, not the entire class,

  26. Overlord, I just changed the ingame sound settings of WoT and also tweaked my Win7 sound settings of the X-Fi soundcard (added more bass), and the gun sounds are MUCH better now, even better than in 9.0.

Thus, I have to change my mind about the 9.1 gun sounds: they are cool and only need some more diversity.

  28. Regarding the sounds, the gun sounds are too muffled and does not quite have the bang real guns do. I know you cannot crank up the volume of the sounds so that you blow your speakers but they should be made louder and with more bass, and I also miss some variation in the gun sounds.

The engine sounds are a bit disappointing because, there is literally no gearing sound so it sounds like a Prius, the engine sounds comes to an abrupt stop when you stop the tank that is not very realistic, the engine revs down its not that hard to implement, also petrol engines revs quite hard to get the tank moving I found that lacking as well.
Also the engine sounds are very quiet, they should be louder, allot louder.

Currently both Hellcat and Jackson have only one engine sound each, shared with all their engines, will we in the future get different engine sounds dependant on the engine used?

    1. They are using what we've recorded so far. In future there can be a mixture of recorded and created/tuned sounds. Checking the feedback for now.

  29. I have listened sound at some movies from the test. They are ok, but could be a little louder for better feeling (when it will be distracting for someone he can always change volume settings).

Tank destruction is too Hollywood. It looks more like cooking off a tank or like hit by HEAT, HE ammo then hit by AP/APCR which usually cause no detonation (it is only fast moving piece of metal). IMO tank destruction effects should depend from ammo that killed him.

  30. I have a little question, why weren't the T-29 ROF change and the pz3 model changes listed in the test server patchnotes?

    ReplyDelete
  31. TDs have been nerfed the last two releases by removing soft cover and overwatch positions. With 9.1 the camo bonus has been removed and the map changes are all to make TDs more difficult to play.

The maps are becoming more and more brawler maps with fewer options for flankers and fewer yet for TDs.

WG seems to want only one style of play and one type of player. You will get what you want and everyone else will leave. Congrats.

    1. Totally agree with you. On some maps it is hard to find decent spot for unturreted TD in which you will be useful for your team. I was recently with my Jagpanther in Severogorsk and all routes which enemy used to attack were totally covered, when finally I was able to fire at enemy they were so close that my TD was spotted after first shot and killed in 5 sec by 2 IX tier heavies. No chance for any sniping... Battle totally ruined by MM and terribly designed map.

Specially paper TD's like Marders will have soon a really hard life cause viewrange and stealth were their only really strong sides.

And funny is that all these changes are made because of X tier TD's, which still will be ruining battles cause they do it thanks to of insane alpha, ridicoulus penetration, awsome armors and tank-like HP and not because of theit stealth... In the few X tier battles I played in last weeks, always most frags and damage was made by TD's. It is really awsome to be hit by one of those X tier monsters when you are tier VIII...

  32. TD changes:

The TDs that have stealth as their trick (Borsig, T49, SU-85b) feel almost unchanged. The TDs that rely on stealth very much but don't have extremely good stealth/mobility have just gotten much worse as there seems to be some threshold of how much stealth after firing is generally still good enough at each tier. Alas the StuG and some others crossed these thresholds and now feel very exposed with not much going for them any more as compared to the T49 which has better stealth, better gun handling, better mobility AND more DpM on top of it...

  33. Hello thxs for allowing me to share my thoughts.
    1. Explosions are a bit like Hollywood to dramatic.
    2. Tundra with the new rework Im not sure if I like any better than the original made some good rework but I think it still needs some more improvement: Look at F0and F9 area most players go there
3.Kharkov: Mix feelings here again not arty friendly map it good for tactical combat for tanks only as with Himmelsdorf and Ensk personally I would make these 3 maps no arty maps.
    4. Gun sounds to muffled not enough distinction between calibers.
    5. Running max setting on video card still get random crashes so I run settings in High rad. 7800 2 gb w/updated drivers.
    6. Wish list over the years I have been playing almost 4 now You have done good by closing the tier gap to 3 would like to bring it to 2 and 3 arty max for the matches.
7 Over the years I have seen players that were good leave the game come back and see what changes were made etc and stay a bit then leave again as id with myself. Today the game get very lopsided 15-0 15-2 15-3 15-4 15-5 to many of these game and it really wears on a players though patterns when u get into these matches 10 in a row or some have been up to 20 why play??
    7. I have yet been on the other reworked maps Kornarin I never had an issue with it since it was first released but if you want players to get on these maps and play them then u need to make then more frequent in rotation.

  36. In Historical battles, even with the changes without any information about which tanks are actually needed for the next battle - tell us the desired weights needed and provided by the tanks in our garage so we can match up with what is in our garage (similar to target tiers in Tank Companies)

ALSO: I feel trolled by the removal of Bulge - since I re-purchased a jackson and crewed it up with gold and complex equipment to play then they remove it? Fool me once good for you. You shall not fool me twice. This is either extremely bad design or this is just a gold grab.

With the same map for the battle and predictable order of battle - the match stagnates in originality since the same strategy gets played every time. There is no reason that some of these cannot be "assault" or "encounter" mode... and there are several winter maps suitable for play. Restricting it to one map means it gets boring by the 3rd battle. Wintering other maps is not that difficult apparently - which would immediately bring variety instead of the same tactics each time with the same predictable outcome.

  37. I think it's high time they took tier 8 tanks out of tier 10 battles. I don't play 8's much but it's ridiculous, I eat even Tiger II's upper plate with my object mediums.. insane. The excuse that it's to fill up the games is also not properly founded because there is more than enough now playing WoT in all regions. It's bad enough now in WoT that 1 mistake can cost you an entire tank or even a JPE100 hit for example for 1,000 damage. Tier 8's don't deserve to be there.

    1. I will give them credit on tier spread when they moved to change it to 3 but I what don't accept is there thought on why they cant move to a 2 tier spread ( longer wait times especially on the NA server) I would like to see a 2 tier spread it would be far more competitive I like to suggest to you William it would be nice if you would qualify yourself MM Broke ? How? tier 2 spread its 3 now?? Im somewhat confuse here. Arty redone? How? its nerfed now but then again I would assume you must be a camper who like to sit still, till arty reloads and get his AIM on you

      Delete
    2. No arty is not nerfed, they just changed the mechanics of arty as far as load times , shell flight . They gave arty more alpha more splash . Now all arty has to do is adjust to the new mechanics and they have. This out of nowhere god eye shells hitting you for your whole tank is bs. I only camp in tanks that you should camp in. Wot is the only place real or gaming where you have to move your tank back and forth and side ways to avoid being hammered by arty , and that always doesn't help. War gaming should include an opt out of arty battles box to check . It wouldn't take long before arty would be playing with themselves. It is ruining the game and is the primary reason I haven't been playing not to mention why they haven't seen my credit card in a while

      Delete
  39. It has got so bad that when I see three arty I just go back to garage. Also find the game needs a one tier spread because there is not much you can do in a tier 8 against tier tens. War gaming has competition now and is falling behind at a very fast rate. War gaming should spend more time fixing what they got as far as spotting, arty being high reward with no risk, and adding graphics that some peoples computers can't enjoy . Would like to see larger maps like war thunder has and sim battles like war thunder gas

  40. Not many are playing HB after the first round most players think and believe you have screwed it up.
Going back to the original sounds is ok but all the people were saying allow the sounds to be more accurate with each caliber.
Going back to the original explosions was a good idea
Performance issues seem to be solved I failed in checking my graphic settings I do know I cannot run my setting to Max without crashing every third match with the current live game.
Komarin finally got a match on it, I must say I don't know if I like the improvement or not, by allowing veh to travel where the water lvl has been it should be very hard to travel thru?? I just have mix feelings about the new changes I will say I prefer the current one.
After all these years I have challenged you guys in the pen values today I would encourage you guys to revisit these something is amidst when a pen value of 260 cant pen the side of 80mm at 90 degrees whether it be 100m-300m
Suggestion on Maps: I like to see a larger Mines map I have ask about this since I did beta back in 2010 I really believe then as I do now that this map should be no higher than Tier 6. Expanding this map would be a good addition to the map rotation. A little side note: I have been playing open beta in WT at this point in time you have nothing to worry about it seems you guys have the tank game down where as they have their ground force much like you have wowp at this point in time as of now I am disappointed with WT at this point in time.
