[ALERT] Yet Another Feedback Topiс. IMPORTANT!

Asking for your opinion, guys, since I'm kinda in between regarding this blog right now. It has been a long 2+ years long road, and it's obviously time to change. Or quit... First is better, though :)

So,

Point ONE. What topics would you prefer to be covered in here in near future? Share your thoughts, I will make a list, and do my best to provide the requested materials. Just don't ask for impossible. :)

Point TWO. On a related note, what do you think of making this blog a platform for user-generated content as well (I will still be around)? Are there any potential contributors among you willing to participate? What topics you cover as an author? Or can you recommend others as authors? Give them link to the post then!!

If the whole "platform" idea is welcomed, I'm going to share my contact details to talk things through.

Discuss in comments. Your opinion counts!

[ALL] Make Yourself Heard!

I will be heading for GDC 2013 to San Francisco later this week and prior to the event I will be talking to our EU and NA offices regarding (in)formal community relations, blogs, information policy and relevant stuff. I would appreciate any feedback from your side regarding the mentioned stuff, namely: your attitude to this blog, official forums, customer relations of WG in general.
What are the most glorious win and epic fail?

[ALL] Happy Holidays 2012!

The year 2012 has been amazing and extremely eventful for us. I tried to make the summary short, but..

Minsk, Belarus
In blossoming World of Tanks we have seen 9 major releases bringing huge changes and massive improvements, from those I would especially mark out the legendary (yes!) 8.0 with new physics and updated graphic render and the long-awaited introduction of British tanks later in 8.1.
The upcoming year is going to be similarly successful with all the stuff planned.

Kyiv, Ukraine
Second major product of the series - World of Warplanes entered the closed beta in late May. The game had its own ups and downs, natural for its early stage. The massive and extremely secret (!) overhaul of the many persistent issues has almost been finished by now and we will definitely be glad to present the results some time in Q1 2013.

World of Tanks Generals, a collectible card online game, is currently at alpha stage and doing very good. Expect lots of new from this side in 2013.

Saint-Petersburg, Russia
World of Warships was only announced in mid 2012 (even though had been in development for some time before that) but has done just awesome progress since then, the feedback from various focus tests has been scarily positive so far. And believe my word, the game will come up to your expectations. The first testing stage is coming in foreseeable future.

Somewhere in WG's basements in Siberia
Above are titles that have been announced by now, which doesn't mean we are not trying to broaden our horizons soon. For sure, you are going to discover a lot new in 2013.

Now to the key point. Thank you for staying with us throughout this period. All the best to you and your families!

Merry Christmas and happy New Year! Stay around in 2013 and see you in battles - ground, aerial, and naval ones. May luck be on your side:)

Always yours,
Overlord

[ALL] Overlord? Yes, please!

I have been getting numerous questions and comments both via private messaging system on EU forums (both World of Warplanes and, especially, World of Tanks) and even here, on the blog, on my current status, i.e. whether I still belong to WG dev team and has my status been changed lately or not.

That's, I believe, because of the recent change in my forum profiles here and here - as you can see, the current member group is set to Military reserve which may be regarded by some as retired dev or something. With over 9.500 posts on WoT EU board and over 220 on WoWP EU (and growing steadily as the project moves forward), I do understand that many of our players have sort of got used to communication with me personally and demand more direct replies and feedback.

However, due to the most recent policy change, all related communication on official resources including forums will be carried out via EU representatives while I will still be providing my services over here - at Overlord's blog.

So, if there is something that, from your standpoint, should be brought into my attention, feel free to poke me here, on the blog, not being afraid to go off-topic (just keep in mind WoWP NDA which is still active :)). Blog has many advantages comparing to regular forums, you don't have to use your main game account to post something (e.g. to give negative feedback), it supports OpenID authentication, conversation mode, and what's more important, both EU and NA players can use it as a single resource.

As a reminder, my primary focus these days is World of Warplanes, however I welcome any WoT-related discussions, not mentioning other projects.

Ask!

Best regards,
Overlord aka Dmitry Yudo
Producer @ Wargaming.net

PS: I apologize to NA folks in advance, I have kinda abandoned them earlier only due to time zone difference which is 7-10 hours. Regardless of this gap, I'm pleased to communicate with you, guys, and I have more visitors from the United States than from any other country. :)

Change in Scope

It's has been a while since the latest big post back in December 2011.

Many things have changed since then, including my position and scope. Currently I'm involved as producer in two major projects that are currently in development by Wargaming.net - World of Tanks and World of Warplanes.

Thus at the current stage I'm devoting my time and effort to a more generalized and strategic level of things, having less time to some particular details (e.g. balance of tank X), which will inevitably affect the format of the blog and dramatically decrease time spent on forums.

From now on, I will do my best providing the information on how and why we do things instead of focusing on what exactly we do (such stuff can be found on specialized resources like forums and websites). This will minimize the overlap with similar sources.

The aforementioned change means that the blog will cover issues related to both ground and aerial warfare. I would like to keep most of the communications and discussions in one place, ie here. This will also include regular Q&A sessions and insider's posts of various kinds.

During the major break I also had chance to visit Game Developers Conference 2012 in San Francisco, US, which was really helpful and somewhat fun.

Even though some of the talks were dedicated to sort of obvious things with few or no innovative ideas and aimed at students, the majority could find something for their own taste. Looked like Naughty Dog and DICE had the biggest overall number of talks which were very popular.

Lowly Overlord and mighty Sid Meier.

Prior to flying back home, I also had a chance to visit Tank Summit at one of the biggest private tank collections in the world comprising ~150 vehicles. Really impressive.

                                     T-54/55 "The beloved"

T-34 with 76mm. Really rare stuff, most of survived vehicles are 34-85.

M103 "The newcomer"

Just M3 Lee.

Starting with the next week, the blog will be regularly updated. Waiting for ideas and suggestions in comments.

PS: Hope, you also like the updated design of the blog.
PPS: Not planning to disable OpenID comments, asking everyone to be civilized. Thanks.

Meet Up WoT with Team and Overlord at Tankfest 2011

Tankfest 2011 will be held from June 25th till June 26th at The Tank Museum in Bovington, England. This is one of the most established annual British military history shows bringing the story of tanks and soldiers to life.

Tankfest is also a great opportunity for World of Tanks devotees to catch up with the development team representatives including Overlord (myself).

I look forward to meeting you, guys. Come and have fun!

If you are determined to come, please leave a comment below.

Figure Me Out! [FINISHED]

If you are reading this here now, you must have known me for quite a while. Whether you like me or not, your visiting this blog implies that you are curious at least! Fancy telling everyone what you think about my (non-)humble person? Today you are officially granted an opportunity to express all your ideas and thoughts of me…

Why namely today? Well, that’s easy. Today is the anniversary of June 6th, 1944, known as D-Day, when Normandy Landings began. What connection has it got with me? Easy again… The name of the operation aimed at invading German-occupied Western Europe by Allied Forces was Overlord. And this is exactly where my name comes from. Sorry, wrong link (like this game, btw). Here you go.

Obviously I couldn’t but promote myself commemorate it somehow.

Now when you have got some information on the operation itself, give it a shot to figure out who the person (people???) standing behind this name in WOT is (are???).
  • If you bet Overlord is a collective image comprised by a group of idiots, give your reasons and portray those who make it up.
  • If you think Overlord is a real person you have some respect to (no one? crap!), give it a try to draw a psychological portrait of him.
  • If you do believe Overlord is a real person but you feel like mocking at him (expect a lot of submissions here), feel free to do that and come up with a good psychological caricature of him.
Overlord, being either one person or a group, will decide what best pieces of writing are. The winners in all three categories will be awarded 10.000 gold and a signed picture of real Overlord (may be)! You have got a week till June 14th, 0:00 UTC to submit your ideas here in the comments. The criteria of choosing winners are simple… Overlord should like it!

Few Simple rules to follow:
  • Stick to 100-150 words limit
  • Put your in-game nickname and server you are playing on (so as I can easily locate and ban you)
  • No side comments and spamming please

The contest is over. The results will be announced in a few days.
