During the development of both each game of World of .. series (all being on different stages, for sure) we have gathered lots of curious materials on tanks, aircraft, and ships. Our in-house military experts are working in archives of many countries, eg among the team in Russia we have got proficient Yuriy Pasholok, a complete military addict, who has access to the Central Archives of Ministry of Defense (see those red "ЦАМО РФ" letters on the images below) containing some great stuff. Will be sharing some of those from now on.
Above is the order on research and future production of 57mm automatic gun for light tank destroyer - SU-76M. The vehicle was also intended as anti-infantry one. The document dates back to May of 1945.
Basic gun requirements are as follows:
- Caliber - 57mm
- Muzzle velocity - 1000 m/s or 3280 fps
- Vertical elevation - -10 - +15 deg
- Horizontal sector - +/- 15 deg
- RoF - 70-80 rpm
- Should be serviced by 1 loader and 1 gunner
- Loading - both manual and automatic
It was supposed to be not a self-propelled anti-aircraft weapon, but a tank destroyer, somewhat close to basic SU-76 with S-60
Approximately this way:
want
ReplyDeletewant so badly
ReplyDeletewant too
ReplyDeleteOP
ReplyDeleteIs this a new tank line for the Russian TD line maybe?
ReplyDeleteSo slap that bad boy on the SU-76 already in the game, or give it to us as a premium. I'd buy it.
ReplyDeleteSo?
ReplyDeleteAlso want. Tier V premium TD plz.
ReplyDeleteI agree as well.
DeleteSu76m will be probably tier 4 USSR TD.
ReplyDeleteaccording to worldoftanks.eu/dcont/fb/media/art/tank_trees/ussr-_full(eng)-eu.jpg
su76BM = su76m IMO
Must. Build. One.
ReplyDeleteRight. Let's continue putting fantasy tanks and guns into WoT. I can't wait until I can use a ray gun to blast my opponents. Not.
ReplyDeleteit can going to be like automatic 37mm of the T-50. It isnt going to be OP gun. Yes, it is going to be a fun gun but not an OP gun
DeleteAhā, so the Marder II competition has to be gimped down somehow, so lets buff the counter-part. I will follow this and see how it works out.
ReplyDeleteDo Want! - and a "world of" space battleships or zeppelins too lol
ReplyDeleteFirst premium AA for Workd of Warplanes?
ReplyDeleteOh brilliant now im waiting for all these waffentragers beginning with that one based on pz38 chassis and ending on these based on panther (150 mm or maybe dual 88? dunno which better ;])
ReplyDeleteOverlord, will we see this ingame?
ReplyDeleteCurrently it's not in plans.
DeleteOverlord, are you sure these documents arent secret/gekados/тайна anymore and you are allowed to publish them?
ReplyDeleteI hope so. :)
DeleteOn a serious note, yes totally sure.
Give the Su-76 a "Turret-Option" with a Second Superstructure which are closed, and that is a realy good TD :D
ReplyDeleteAny Chance for the "Molins Gun 6pdr" for the american Techtree?
(Working you Military Expert now on the M3 Lee? ;))
mfg Kolaski
(Sry for my bad english)
Will we ever be able to shoot that main cannon on the french B1? Or the turret on M3 Lee? And someday make a world of space ships or something, there is not a single decent game about it. I know russians 3D artists, they would do some ass kicking ships, combine that with your expertise and we'll have a great game.

ReplyDeleteSorry for the double posting. Blame google and android 2.3
DeleteIVAN BIAS!!!
ReplyDeleteYou find all these obscure tanks, yet won't set the T15E2 to its historical settings despite having MANY references that corroborate that it is not correct (or anywhere close to correct) in game?
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly troubles you with it?
DeleteThe T15E2 is just the tiniest bit better than the 8.8cm L/71 german gun in reality. It has near identical penetration, muzzle speed, barrel caliber-lengths and accuracy. The T15E2 was specifically modeled after the 8.8cm L/71 but turned out a hair better. This is according to Hunnicut's Firepower: A History of the Heavy Tank. But in the game it has 15% less penetration (33 total points penetration on the T25/2 and T32, 23 points on the M26 Pershing).
Deletemaybe for balance??? or are you think a medium need the same penn as a heavy?
DeleteSorry, but the 90mm T15E2 had about 180mm penetration at 100 meters range IRL. It didn't penetrate better due to problems with the shell shattering.
DeleteIf it didn't have those problems, it would have penetrated around 220mm of armor at 100 meters.
On the other hand, the German 8.8cm L/71 is significantly undervalued in World of Tanks, with only 203mm penetration. IRL, it penetrated about 230mm of armor at 100 meters.
I'm willing to hear your source Mr. Smith. My source (Hunnicut's Firepower) says that the HVAP of the T15E2 could penetrate 220mm of steel at 30 degrees angling at a thousand yards (which is 255mm flat). The ONLY references of I've seen of any "Shatter" issues are a few passing statements to it on various forums, and not a single one is referenced to anything, website or book.
DeleteThe T15E2 have better penn with APCR like in the real life, the 88L/71 have more penn with APBC and less with APCR ;) check it. And The 88L/71 penn of 230 of armor at 100 metres is in a no sloped armor
DeleteOne figure I have for the 90mm T15E2 is 132mm at 457 meters range and against 30 degree slope with T43 APBC.
DeleteThis puts it at around 175-185mm at 100 meters range and against 0 degree slope.
The 170mm for the regular T15E2 in WoT is unrealistically low, but the 180mm for the (fictional) T15E2M2 is reasonably accurate.
Evidence for shatter problems is from DeMarre extrapolations; with a 975 m/s muzzle velocity and 10.91 kg shell weight, the T15E2 should have penetrated a LOT higher than 180mm.
Using the 76mm M1 gun as reference, it should have penetrated about 201mm; with the 90mm M3 gun as reference, 197mm.
The only realistic explanation is that USA shell quality wasn't sufficient to withstand such high impact velocities.
It is known that the 76mm M1 gun firing either M79 AP or M62 APCBC suffered shell shatter issues to some extent under certain firing conditions, and that gun only had a 792 m/s muzzle velocity.
Even the German 8.8cm L/71 is thought to have suffered some degree of shell shatter with its 1000 m/s muzzle velocity, and German shells were by far the best quality during WW2.
As for tungsten HVAP... that's another thing entirely. I was never refering to it.
Historically it probably achieved somewhere around 300-320mm at 100 meters range and 0 degree slope with T44 HVAP.
In comparison, I estimate the 8.8cm L/71 as around 270-300mm under same conditions with Pzgr.40/43 APCR.
Over; wich of this two french tech tree are the correct?

In the second you move Renault EU 57mm from premium arty to normal TD. Why?
57mm with 60-80 RPM would be kinda ridiculously overpowered in WoT... at least for tier 5 and lower battles.
ReplyDeleteWith a 1000 m/s MV, it was probably developed from the 57mm ZiS-2/ZiS-4 guns, which had a MV of 990 m/s.
So it's probably have a similar 112mm penetration and 75 damage in WoT.
60 x 75 = 4500
80 x 75 = 6000
So... 4500 to 6000 DPM! That is just insane DPM... it need a lot of nerfing in other areas to be balanced.
