Wargaming.net To Conquer the Sky

Wargaming.net announces the new project - World of Warplanes - based on military air dominance ranging from the 1930's through the 1950's.

World of Warplanes is a standalone Free2Play game being developed by the team that have created World of Tanks.

“We are proud to be able to develop another high quality Free to Play game for the world’s gaming community”, said Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming.net. “World of Tanks has been extremely succesful and we look to bring the same high quality if not better to World of Warplanes.”

  4. Nice but I hope it won't affect WoT (slower updates etc)

  5. Would like to sing up for beta as well :)

  6. Q: Nice but I hope it won't affect WoT (slower updates etc)

    A: It won't affect WOT.

  7. I hope Wargaming isn't planning to use Bigworld 2.0 again.

Use the Frostbite engine 2, we're in 2011, not 2001, those that got low end computers should face the reality & realize their computer isn't going to last forever.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Frostbite for planes??? are you mad?? rather Il-2 engine.... either way count me in Overlord.. Or should i ask where do I sign in?

    ReplyDelete
  9. perhaps WOT and World of Planes could one day, far far in the future, join into a single network :)
But I dont know...I dont really want bombers flying above my tank...you know...the plane equivalent of an SPG.

  10. As long as you support joy sticks and throttles count me in.

  11. Sturmtiger_304,

can't disclose any details on the engine at present.

    ReplyDelete
  12. will it launch from the same game launcher. i see in wot you have a dropbox to select only one option.. would it be like selecting from two options then or another standalone client? :d

    ReplyDelete
  13. Currently (!) it has a standalone client.

  14. Really good news!Looking forward to fight with yaks and early migs against p51s. And dont forget the po-3 dinosaur bomber :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Nice to hear that but given the issues still present in WoT and missing tech trees i'd rather hear about massive updates and fixes for the tanks before climbing up the skies.

Interesting news however, let us know when we can sign up for a closed beta.

  16. Seconding the inclusion of a joystick option for control. Get that in and you will see me buying gold for the game like a madman.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Any timeframe for this game (of course it should be VERY generalized). Will we have a chance to still see it in 2011, or early/middle/late 2012?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Fantastic Idea!

Was hoping for something like that. Good balance between simulation and arcade will be the key to success. While I love flight simulators, I don't think it will be suitable to go through a 15 min. startup checklist at the start of every game. But at the same time no one will have much fun playing with some arcade planes that all feel the same and can spin like crazy without any danger of crashing.

won't be easy, but if you hit the sweet spot it could be a great success!

  19. Hell yeah! I hope it's going to be similar to WoT:D

    ReplyDelete
  20. O heck yes... I have been waiting for a dog fighting game and I can't be more then pleased with you guys making it... if it's anything like WoT or even better, I just can't wait. Sign me up for closed beta...in game Wot game Kast1el :)

  21. Bombers, we need bombers.

    ReplyDelete
  22. We 'll see Russian fighter camp in the cloud and shot as ninja, like in WOT now ^^

    ReplyDelete
  23. So fighting 15 vs 15 airplanes on 800meter*800meter airspace? :D

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wouldn't it be "better" to just add aircraft to World of Tanks? Strafing runs, bombers, anti-aircraft, flak guns, etc?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Sign me on :) I hope my clan becomes bi-gaming/winning in that case

  27. Great!!! I'm a fan of IL-2 Sturmovik series and I will play World of warplanes with the Saitek X45 ^^

    ReplyDelete
  28. I would say fix WoT first... but whatever

    ReplyDelete
  29. Have you decided what engine will you use? Big world again or...?

  30. Q: Any timeframe for this game (of course it should be VERY generalized). Will we have a chance to still see it in 2011, or early/middle/late 2012?

A: My personal estimation is that closed beta should start at the end of 2011.

    ReplyDelete
  31. This sure sounds epic! And with that date you giving im pretty sure I´ll be on the closed Beta again :)
Hope u find the right balance between realism and arcade, just like yoi did with WOT.

Then at last bring out World of Ships and we have the "TOTALE KRIEG" xD

    ReplyDelete
  32. I want to fly a Zero

    ReplyDelete
  33. GG, start a new project before the other one is finished. If you don't fix WoT nobody is going to play a warplane game knowing the same devs made it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. How about using Eve Online's "aircraft" in a crossover project? Peek out of your bomb crater in Ensk with your arty, ready to rain destruction on a TD lurking a few blocks away, only to be hit with a Heavy Beam Laser weapon from orbit :)
j/k But there *are* lots of WoT players because of the banner ads in the Eve community.
At least the learning curve issue has already been addressed by the Eve folks :)

  35. I was personally betting on World of Ships would be your next game, either Age of Sail, WW1 or WW2 periods.

Didn't expect World of Planes. I actually see World of Planes being a bit of a redheaded stepchild.

There is NO way to get the balance right between Sim and Arcade. Everybody will have a different opinion of what is the 'right' balance and pretty much you will alienate either one side or the other.. or quite possibly both.

Also speed of the game is going to be a problem, The advantage of WoT or WoS (World of Ships) is that the game speed is/will be slow enough that ping doesn't really matter. The same isn't true in any form of flight combat. Hence why games like Black Prophecy, Jumpgate or even the recent Battlestar Galactica Online really haven't done well.

  36. I´m pretty sure that Wargaming is going to rock with this one too. I'm looking forward to see some pics of it. Btw, WOT is one of the best games i've played so far. And if you guys(Wargaming) need our services again: translation, alpha and beta testing, just tell us where and when to sign up...again ;)

  37. Questions:

Is World of Warplanes going to have same world of tanks graphics?

Will battles be fast paced one or how will they disenvole?

What will be the initicial nations?

  38. Great info, cant wait!

Q: Any timeframe for this game (of course it should be VERY generalized). Will we have a chance to still see it in 2011, or early/middle/late 2012?

Late 2012 will be with online super realistic game named "end of the world"

    ReplyDelete
  39. I vote for world of ships too!

Bring on some REAL STEEL instead of carton boxed fliers!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ships not planes..... Ping will murder it

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ship is a bit hard to avoid shot and it seem only work like "big ship is the winner"
    I think airplane more suitable
Fly a plane must be harder than moving a ship
if you not move carefully you will end up a trash without any enemies shot you down

  42. Q: GG, start a new project before the other one is finished. If you don't fix WoT nobody is going to play a warplane game knowing the same devs made it.

A: WOT team will continue working on WOT.

Late 2012 will be with online super realistic game named "end of the world"

A: I hope it will be released before the "end of the world".

  44. I HATE YOU! YOUR GAMES KEEP ME ADDICTED AND FORCING TO FORGET ABOUT REAL LIFE!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Will you make a post about E-50?
Screenshots were recently released (http://world-of-tanks.livejournal.com/1710065.html), it would be interesting to read a developer's commentary.

  46. sign me up for the betta testing i love ur guys games they are awesome as hell

    ReplyDelete
  47. Will World of Planes(WoP) be standard keyboard controls, or joystick or both?

    ReplyDelete
  48. hmmm... so you are branching from a game that is not quite operating correctly (WoT); but does not yet have direct competition (at least in the US) to a realm of games already LOADED with experienced competition?

air combat has had EVERY facet from WW1 to near-earth orbit explored in detail.

also, 'World of Aircraft' may be a better name, due to a conflict of initials with a VERY well known game here in the USA. I am not certain; but I would not be surprised if those initials are already under copyright law.

somebody else guessed you might go 'World of Ships' next. The sounds interesting. The field is not quite as explored as air combat (at least not in video gaming). Sea combat (from ancient greek and roman Triemes to battleships to missile-firing cruisers) has been done, though.

to avoid DIRECT competition and achieve a new 'flavor'; I suggest 'World of Ironclads'. I have not yet seen any video games exploring THAT.

in fact, you could even introduce a new scheme called 'design your ironclad'.

  49. just the sound of thier engines hearing thru the every battle would be anoying as hell.

  50. Would like to sing up for beta :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Great info Overlord and I'm looking forward to the game and hopefully even the beta.

Can you comment on play style? For instance is the game going to be a flight simulator or will the play style be similar to WoT except use planes instead of tanks?

I certainly enjoy WoT and I love planes to so I see more of my money heading your way. :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. FINISH WOT FIRST

WoT is still in beta (0.6) and you already starting another game... wtf ?!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Everyone talking about finishing WoT.

Overlord has stated several times already that the WoT will still be working on WoT. So please STOP!

Also I was semi curious about the possible controls as well. Will there be standard mouse and keyboard controls or will there be compatibility to several joysticks I assume?

  54. Comments on planes being lot more ping dependent thus requiring higher end machines & connection worry me as well. But also, it seems that wot is successful since it appeals to older people (with money to spend), who prefer a slower paced game requiring lots of tactical decisions. Thinking mans' shooter, you know.
I have no idea how that same effect could be achieved with fast phased open sky air combat?

  55. I'm in!(Im EliteCommander007)

  56. I would also love to beta this. +1 for the plug to have compatibility with the Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 comment.

Please no super arcadey flight models.

  58. You know if they DID combine this with WoT, they'd just have to add lines of SPAA to WoT. Just sayin'. :))

    ReplyDelete
  59. if its like the old red baron dos game you better watch out I am ace at that game... still my favorite flying game even with old graphics. I bet I can beat you in a dog fight in the flying bath tub or the early mono plane =p

    ReplyDelete
  60. YES! All that time I played Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3 and IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 will finally be of use!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I do hope the Me 262 A-1a/U4 is included. Had a lot of fun with it in CFS3. I also hope we can fly Kamikaze "missions" with the Japs, and bomber ramming missions with the Luftwaffe.

    ReplyDelete
  62. World of ships might be better (in my humble opinion) Wow wop? this is quite unexpected.. i would hope world of battleships is better with modules and turrets engines? So.. uhmm yeah just my opinion... xD it depends on u devs hehe... i am a ship and tank enthusiast lol... well yeah.. if u would continue that project(wop) pls add some bots on aa guns that can fire at u hehe and add moving objects for a bombing raid maybe? hehe tnx btw..

  63. To be honest, i sign up with WOT cause i like driving machines around and blowing things up, but i was really hoping they come up with a flying game since that is my true calling.... for those of you Haters, WOT has come along a long way. this is a free MMORPG !!! FREE !!! meaning it does not have the funding that EVE have or World of Warcraft. So to me, this company has done wonderful things with a FREE game.... yes i have been playing for free cause i believe in earning my stripes ( and because i got no money lol ). I have introduce many of my gamer friends the same way i was introduce and they are all blown away by how good this game is been a FREE game

    ReplyDelete
  64. oh no another addiction coming my way ,i can almost see the juge signing off on my marrage:),how will one sign up for closed beta and find the time to play both

    ReplyDelete
  65. Agree. Airplanes is an exceptionally crowded space unlike tanks. Looking forward to it though.

World of ships would be amazing. Especially set in the age of sail. From small cutters to triple decker ships of the line. Think pirates of the burning sea port battles but with Wargamming.net style.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Reading between the lines, I can see a definite plan here....

The "end goal" is clearly to merge WoT and WoP into the one game. Eventually this will all be run on the same client, and of course will involve additional tank units (i.e. AA guns, Command Vehicles, etc)

Also, it will be massive - particularly in scale! Maps will have to be huge to allow for aircraft to maneuver - otherwise they will be stuck running in rather booring tight circles to stay remotely close to the maps we're playing now. If we add airfields to this, then we'll need very large maps indeed!

I doubt that "World of Ships" could be integrated into this - simply because while you can have ships and planes in the one game, or planes and land units, there is very little "overlap" between sea and land units.

Of course, we're looking 2-3 years down the track, but I for one amd really looking forward to it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. If they did do a crossover, poor Maus wouldnt have a chance getting to other side if maps enlarged to suit planes.

Curious if you can have PS3 controller support for Wot & Wop as I am used to it flying and driving vehicles with it.

However there is confusion between world of planes & world of warplanes so may need to change name to world of aircraft?
