    1. Its either broken or the clans fighting on the Province Oslo have a really long battle. It still gives the battle time from yesterday. And this has been happening for at least two days on EU1 and EU2 server.

    2. Also on Brandenburg still fighting and the day before yesterday on Bryansk region.

Also from what ive read there are landings which keeps crashing and special battles that dont come up.

Our EU team is being as helpfull as ever again and dont even read the common "problems with CW" thread.

(here translation for those who do not understand Russian - http://ftr.wot-news.com/2013/08/05/symbols-of-victory-stalin-strikes-back/#more-1436 )

Honoring mass murderer is bad PR policy (except for Russia and Belorussia as we see).

One mobile phones company in my country used Lenin in commercials. After a few days they had to withdraw them, because of customers reaction.

As you want to be see as fans of Stalins oppressions and crimes, it is your free will. But prepare to be treated as "pro-bolshevik company" by many European players.

I am not going to finance company, which wants to honor tyrant. And my sympathy to WG is over. For me Stalin = Hitler.

Sure, Tukhachevsky wasn't tortured and killed and like Zinoviev or Trotsky he died because he was old (at age 44). And Khrushchev was CIA agent so this is why he described in 1956 Stalin's purges and crimes - http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/О_культе_личности_и_его_последствиях - here full text in Russian http://ru.wikisource.org/wiki/О_культе_личности_и_его_последствиях._Доклад_XX_съезду_КПСС_(Н.С._Хрущев).

And this, what Khrushchev revealed, was only a tip of the iceberg

Which are all confirmed by Gorbatshov and other high soviets, shame on u shame on u all stalinist lovers.

    7. I have a great idea. Split the EU servers into butthurt and non butthurt.

Those that don't get butthurt by a historical inscription can carry on as normal, and the butthurt server can contain unicorns and pixies and stuff and no historical inscriptions.

There you go Overlord.. give us a job!

      Delete
    8. Exactly, they were monsters, that it why we should never try to forget them by erasing their name from their creations. This is why we need to keep references of Stalin, and the swastika, and the rising sun, to keep reminding us of why men died. To speak someone's name is NOT to glorify them, it's to acknowledge that they existed and if the truth of their existence disturbs you, good. That means you haven't forgotten, but don't turn your personal disgust for someone into a denial that leads other to forget WHY and go down the same path as them. THIS IS WHY HISTORY IS IMPORTANT, THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND AND THE HISTORY WE WANT TO FORGET!

I'm an American, and I have my own demons: the firebombing of Tokyo, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, slavery, the Israeli Palestinian conflict; shall I go on?

      Delete
    9. @Coldt

Swastika is forbidden in WoT, the same like Hitlers name, SS, and even Wittmanns name. I do understand reasons why it was done and accept them. But I do not like policy "our mass murderer is cool, their mass murderer is forbidden".

Initially WG allowed all local offices to decide which inscriptions are OK and which are not. That was very good policy. All Western offices decided not to introduce inscriptions with Stalin. But Stalins lovers on Russian server were angry because of it, they asked developers for quite a long about this, so now WG ordered to introduce Stalin on all servers. It is like "how you dare to block our Stalin, you European and American scums!"

At the same time Russians were in last weeks attacking Company of Heroes 2 cause they didn't like how the game showed some aspects of Soviet army. Sega decided to withdraw the game from Russia.

      Delete
    10. Coldt made some good points above.

The reasons for banning things from the game should be crystal clear - it's forbidden if it's forbidden by law, either international or local.

      Personal attitude doesn't count.

      Delete
    11. Actually, you may, as you are making historical games, to ask for permission in using of swastika, inscriptions and names.....

      Delete
    12. Actually, I don't agree with the banning of certain symbols by other countries just because they bring up bad memories. That being said, in a country like the United states those symbols should be used in the U.S. version of the game, in fact any version of the game that isn't used in a country that directly bans those symbols. So, there's still some stuff to fix.

      Delete
    13. quote: "The reasons for banning things from the game should be crystal clear - it's forbidden if it's forbidden by law, either international or local."

how's that working out exactly?! because there are a lot of countries in Europe that has laws banning communist slogans, inscriptions, etc - want examples? Hungary, Poland ..

      and there's this: http://tinyurl.com/mdg48er

      also, quoting overlord again:
"There is no worshipping. You are blind with your emotions."
and from WG's own post: "While Josef Stalin is not an uncontroversial personality of history, and to many his conduct is seen with strong feelings and severity, his contributions to overcoming the forces of fascism threatening Europe and the world during the middle of the 20th century as well as his role as a leader in the anti-Hitler coalition"
so, Stalin was the one who "vanquished" Hitler and his fascism, not the tens on millions of soviet troops - one man did it all
how exactly is that not worshiping ?!?! cult of personality rings any bells

we lived communism, not "the west" - the whole fucking Eastern Bloc

    16. Yeah, EU and NA servers are only for ex-communist countries, lol. Also maybe you missed that, but communism ended in the countries you mention in 1989, so 24 years ago. And now they are all in NATO and EU. This is the West. Specially for Russians.

Also Hungary or Poland were always much more western then eastern. Communism was just a short time in their history.

or is it? take Belarus for example - Alexander Lukashenko is "president" since 1994 and declares himself as "independent" although he's pro soviet (yep, I said right .. pro soviet)

Russia - they have, yet again, Putin as president and he's not shy with his pro-soviet view

    2. Even assholes do SOME good, Hitler brought a starving country out of the worst economic depression in history.

That being said, I hold Stalin is worse light than even Hitler. A lot of the bad that came out of he 1917 Russian Revolution can be traced back to Stalin, chiefly the Red Torror, a series of executions proposed to Lenin by Stalin after an assassination attempt on Lenin. The death toll range on the Red Terror is wide because of the poor population records taken at the time, but they average around 500,000. When Lenin suffered a stroke and went into retirement, Stalin took the reins almost unchecked. In Lenin's letters he criticized Stalin's political actions and even asked for him to be removed from power. We all know what came of that. In the next 30 years Stalin executed, or worked to death, more Russians than those that actually died from WW2. And if you think that's bad you should check out Mao.

    3. "Even assholes do SOME good, Hitler brought a starving country out of the worst economic depression in history."

It is disputable. I had read not so long ago some article, which claimed that his economic policy was also huge disaster. He made short leaved prosperity, but after a few years he needed war to finance his "economical miracle". Author claimed that if not the war Hitler would be remembered as someone who totally ruined German budget.

Between 1933 and 1939, the total revenue was 62 billion marks, whereas expenditure (at times made up to 60% by rearmament costs) exceeded 101 billion, thus creating a huge deficit and national debt (reaching 38 billion marks in 1939).

    9. @Coldt

it doesn´t matter that they had them, german tanks surely had inscriptions glorifying the german side of the war. WG argues they won´t use those because Nazi = bad and its forbidden by law to display them.
Many people on EU server argue the same way, communism = bad. Some EU countries even banned that kind of sovjet propaganda. The EU server can use the same arguments against nazi and sovjet propaganda as WG uses against nazi propaganda.

      Delete
    10. @coldt what kind of sub-human are you?
putting Stalin and Hitler on the "great historical figures", on the same level as Gandhi

those two mutherfuckers killed tens of millions of humans just because, and yet, Gandhi was instrumental in gaining independence for India by being non-violent and promoting non-violence

Gandhi is a great historical figure, Staling and Hitler are just stains of history

I know, I've heard about that, it's almost reprehensible. Both Germans and Russians would like people to forget a few things because those things are shameful and unsavory. That's why we should never forget. If you fail to remember the past you are doomed to repeat it.

This is much of the reason why I was taught about things like slavery and Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the 5th grade, in school. I was 10 so they didn't go into the gory details, they wait till 10th or 11th grade to do that, but they at least mentioned them and put them in context.

Do you have any idea what it was like on the eastern front? You wana know what the Nazi's did to survivors? They straight up killed the men, then they raped the women and children, then they killed them to. That would have happened to all of Russia had Stalin's emergency orders not held back the German army until winter. Even still, 27 million Russian died. How many would it have been if the German's had taken the country, 50 million, 100 million?

I can understand why russians are proud of winning the war with their allies (thats justified), and i can see that this victory is to some extend seen as an achievment that Stalin made possible. So, nobody has a problem with russian people to be proud about that. But letting paroles and obeisances stay in a videogame that glorify a dictator, tyrann and mass murderer who commanded millions to death and torture is for sure not the right way to go.

If you guys over in russia cant see that, well, what can i say more.

You can't ban blue from a rainbow and then maintain orange because is closer to red. You brought it on yourselves WG. At the same time you give arguments to the people who say that, to WG, EU servers are meant to be an appendix/extension of RU kingdom. Pixeled Imperialism at its best.

  12. Interesting Stalin debate. Many of us in the west view Stalin and the Soviet communistparty at the time as equally evil as Hitler. So do I.

But we can still honor and respect the Soviet fight against the nazis, i.e. the Soviet policy after 1941. We can honor the great work of the Red Army. To honor that work is another thing.

The role of the Soviet Red Army in the fight to defeat Hitler and the nazis are underestimated in the west, and people have bad knowledge about it.

Be careful with the Stalin thing if you want to be a big company in the west and the USA. Many would react to it as you, I am sure, react against Hitler. Bad PR you know... Keep Stalin-inscrptions if you like, that is your decison, but make sure that WG has a plan how to handle this (if you want to be ig in the USA and keep growning in Europe).

The combination with the general racism against poles by players the pro-Stalin inscriptions is a bit... awkward!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think that it would be naive to underestimate the role played by the red army in WW2. But with or without Stalin, the generals, the commanders, and so on, of the red army managed to do their job.
They would have done the job even without Stalin, probably with less loss of life.
Acting in an opposite way, Hitler enforced ridiculous decisions and oposed his experienced generals, thus the epic fails (just like wg not listening to players).
So in my opinion the only good job that Stalin made was to let millitary strategy to the professionals. The entire merit of defeating the germans was of the military, the support they got from their allies and of course the russian weather.

Stalin only delayed the victory: the purging in the army as an example, military resources used to kill civilians instead of the enemy soldiers, not helping in the uprising of Prague until the the uprising was defeated and not allowing the americans to assist the uprisng of Prague and the examples could continue.

Probably Hitler helped more than Stalin to bring the war to an end because his stupid decisions, as Churchill also said.

As a conclusion the war was won by the professional soldiers who were allowed to use their knowledge.

So Overlord, maybe for you its to late, but for the rest I still have hope in understanding history.

  14. Stalin is one of the aggressors that caused the Second World War. His war against Finland, invasion of Rumania-Bessarabia and the Baltic states combined with his senseless alliance with Nazi- Germany and invasion of Poland put the Western Allies in a bad position causing the fall of Western Europe. Here Stalin had counted on a prolonged war like that in 1914-18. The failure of this placed the Germans 5km from the Kremlin and an inch from destroying the USSR. These crimes alone condemns him as one of the greatest traitors of Russia and former States of the USSR. It's easy to forget this and instead focus on the extremely costly defeat of Hitler at the expense of 30million dead.

    2. Seriously, I'm an American who payed attention in history class. Now, Stalin was bad, but too many people think he's like the living embodiment of Satan or something.

Here's what you SHOULD know about the Cold War. Russia had just seen 2 wars, within a 30 year period, and Russia took the brunt of both of them. In WW1 they lost over 3 million people, the highest of all the Entente powers, then in WW2, close to 30 million. After that, they didn't want to see ANYTHING like that happen again, so they started to make a buffer zone between them and the rest of the world that, honestly, looked like they were out to get them. That's where you see the formation of the U.S.S.R. It was an attempt to create a buffer zone, so that in case of ANOTHER invasion Russia would have more time to mobilize their army before the enemy was knocking at their door.

To bolster their defenses, Russia started to build up its military. Then, you end up getting into this cycle of mutual fear. The western powers were affraid of the eastern's military build up and started to build up themselves. Then Russia sees this and fears invasion, with every right. Every previous military buildup this century ended with millions of Russians dead. It was all a GIANT overreaction brought on by mutual paranoia and hawkish politicians.
