Wargaming.net To Conquer the Sky

Wargaming.net announces the new project - World of Warplanes - based on military air dominance ranging from the 1930's through the 1950's.

World of Warplanes is a standalone Free2Play game being developed by the team that have created World of Tanks.

“We are proud to be able to develop another high quality Free to Play game for the world’s gaming community”, said Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming.net. “World of Tanks has been extremely succesful and we look to bring the same high quality if not better to World of Warplanes.”

With the recent announcement of the partnership with Lesta Studio overall portfolio of Wargaming.net comprises more than 20 titles.

If you are reading this here now, you must have known me for quite a while. Whether you like me or not, your visiting this blog implies that you are curious at least! Fancy telling everyone what you think about my (non-)humble person? Today you are officially granted an opportunity to express all your ideas and thoughts of me…

Why namely today? Well, that’s easy. Today is the anniversary of June 6^th, 1944, known as D-Day, when Normandy Landings began. What connection has it got with me? Easy again… The name of the operation aimed at invading German-occupied Western Europe by Allied Forces was Overlord. And this is exactly where my name comes from. Sorry, wrong link (like this game, btw). Here you go.

Obviously I couldn’t but promote myself commemorate it somehow.

Now when you have got some information on the operation itself, give it a shot to figure out who the person (people???) standing behind this name in WOT is (are???).

• If you bet Overlord is a collective image comprised by a group of idiots, give your reasons and portray those who make it up.
  
• If you think Overlord is a real person you have some respect to (no one? crap!), give it a try to draw a psychological portrait of him.
  
• If you do believe Overlord is a real person but you feel like mocking at him (expect a lot of submissions here), feel free to do that and come up with a good psychological caricature of him.

Overlord, being either one person or a group, will decide what best pieces of writing are. The winners in all three categories will be awarded 10.000 gold and a signed picture of real Overlord (may be)! You have got a week till June 14^th, 0:00 UTC to submit your ideas here in the comments. The criteria of choosing winners are simple… Overlord should like it!

D-Day Anniversary in World of Tanks: Sneak Peak

World of Tanks team has scheduled grand celebrations dedicated to the 67^th Anniversary of Normandy Invasion for the beginning of June.

Since the scheduled server restart on June 3^rd the following bonuses will be available on EU and US servers:

- 50% discount for extra garage slots.
- 50% discount for American premium tanks – heavy tank T14, medium tank Ram II, and light tank T2 Lt.

General Patton Medium Tank

The M46 was a medium tank designed in the United States. It was named after General George S. Patton, commander of the U.S. Third Army during World War II and one of the earliest American advocates for the use of tanks in battle The M46 Patton was an improved M26 Pershing tank and one of the U.S Army's principal medium gun tanks of the early Cold War.

M46 Patton is going to replace M26 Pershing as tier 9 US medium tank and will be introduced in 6.5 update which is scheduled for end of June - July 2011.

Players who have a M26 Pershing in their garage at the time of the revision will have it replaced with a M46 Patton, with the respective module setup (possibly with some renaming) keeping their progress and old crew.

Shell Tracer Effects To Be Partially Reintroduced

Shell tracer effects for all allied vehicles and spotted enemy vehicles are going to be reintroduced after tomorrow's scheduled restart (May 31) on EU and US servers.

Note! Mind that shell tracer effects will be partial.

Additional anti hacking protection for shell tracer effects along with their full reintroduction are planned for 6.5 update. 

Meeting in Los Angeles, June 10

Wargaming.net is going to visit E3 Expo: June 7-9, 2011 which takes place in Los Angeles (CA, the USA), and planning to have a meeting with players on June 10th.

The exact time and place will be announced later depening on the approx number of people to come.

New Map: Mannerheim Line

The Mannerheim Line was a defensive fortification line on the Karelian Isthmus built by Finland against the Soviet Union. During the Winter War of 1939-1940 it became known as the Mannerheim Line, after Field Marshal Baron Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim. The line was constructed in two phases: 1920–1924 and 1932–1939.

The map is planned to be introduced in 6.5 update.
